MONMOUTH residents benefited from a random at of kindness in June as Justine Scouller from Far Hill Flowers gave out bunches of flowers.
The "Lonely Bouquets" were left with tags on, encouraging passers-by to pick them up and keep the flowers.
Bouquets were left outside the Shire Hall, Monnow Bridge and in St Mary's churchyard, Chippenham Fields and Vauxhall Fields, and all were found by very surprised but grateful recipients.
Shoppers in Rossiters Books, Hair and Beauty Studio and Raft also found bunches of seasonal British flowers, grown in Llanishen.
The bouquets were made up of sweet peas, sweet williams, clary sage, feverfew, phacelia, calendula, nigella (Love in a Mist), Ladies Mantel, scabious and candytuft, and were all grown on the Far Hill Flowers farm without any chemicals involved.
Justine decided to leave the "Lonely Bouquets" about to help promote British Flowers Week, which took place from Monday 15th to Friday 19th June, but initially found people sceptical to accept the gift.
"Lots of people looked at them (the bouquets) but then walked on – probably thinking it was a candid camera moment," said Justine.
"I had to approach a few people and convince them that the flowers were for taking.
"Once they realised what it was about they were thrilled – big smiles and lots of 'thank you's' – turns out giving away flowers is lovely."
