THE Archbishop of Wales, the Rt Rev Rowan Williams, dedicated a new window at a well attended service at St John's Church, Llandenny, on Sunday.
Designed by Brian May, the window in the west tower was chosen by parishioners as an appropriate symbol to mark the third millennium, the design including the symbol of an Apostle and Evangelist, the Holy Spirit in the form of a dove and Celtic crosses and knots. The £21/2 for the window was raised through private donations and local fund raising events.
Mr May was present at Sunday's service together with the church architect, Arthur Beer. The Vicar, Rev Simon Guest officiated and the organist was Mrs Sue Russell. Local children took part in the readings and prayers.
A number of kneelers, worked by local parishioners, were also dedicated. The service was followed by a lunch in the parish hall, prepared by the ladies of the parish.
