Lewis Oliva, a sixth form pupil at Monmouth School, has just won the Youth Tour of Wales. The event is run over two days, and is a real test of ability and endurance with two road races and a time trial to complete.
This fantastic result caps off an extremely successful season for Lewis, who also reached the finals of the UK National Cycling Championships and went on to win a bronze medal in the sprint event. Lewis was also delighted to reach 5th place in the 500m time trial and 7th in the U18 sprint.
Lewis now has his sights firmly set on the Team GB Olympic Development Programme, with selections taking place later on this year.
Lewis said, "I am extremely happy with my results at the Youth Tour of Wales and the UK National Championships. I've worked very hard throughout the year and am now looking forward to the challenge of the selection process for the Team GB Development Programme, where I will try my best and see what happens!"
Dr Steven Connors, Headmaster at Monmouth School said, "We are tremendously proud of Lewis and his achievements.
" Lewis's results not only reflect his outstanding talent in cycling but also his commitment, drive and dedication. We are confident that Lewis will continue to have a very successful career in cycling."
