SIR,
I read with horror, your article in last week's edition of the Beacon, concerning the proposed solar panel development at Wentwood, a much loved area of natural beauty, where many of us love to ramble and take in the wonderful scenery.
The fact that this project could get the go ahead is unthinkable. Tim Miles, and his neighbours, certainly have my sympathy and support.
There is little mention in your article of the landowners who are allowing this land to be used for such a purpose but it is understood that they are local farmers. The general public is forever being told that our farmers are the "custodians of the countryside," but this sort of action surely falls far short of what is expected of them.
Whatever financial reward the landowner is receiving for this project, they must realise that they are changing their neighbours' lives for ever, not to mention the devaluation of their properties, for who would want to live alongside such a monstrosity.
If the unthinkable happens and this project gets the green light, then one would hope that people affected by it could seek compensation from the landowners and developers concerned.
Not withstanding this, lets hope that Monmouthshire County Council see sense, and refuse planning for this sort of enterprise, in such a beautiful area.
