Councillor Liz Hacket Pain's comments about school league tables seem to be a desperate attempt to pass the buck.

If a football team has good players and coaches but is slipping down the league, the manager in charge is normally sacked.

Monmouth Comprehensive has shown that it possesses excellent teachers and talented students. If it is slipping down the league tables, perhaps it is the fault of the person who is in charge.

As cabinet member for children, young people and learning, that person is Cllr Hacket Pain.

Rather than attempting to blame others, the councillor should tell us what she proposes to do to remedy the situation. She is clearly letting students and teachers down badly.
