Marred by an unfortunate turn of events, this year's Kymin Dash was unique in that some of the runners unknowingly took a wrong turn and four entrants beat the record of 38 minutes 54 seconds, set by P Wheeler in 1985.

One race marshall was attacked while another was hit by a van as emotions ran high last Sunday (25th July).

A statement on the website says: "Unfortunately this year, some runners took the wrong course.

"It transpires that one of our marshalls was physically attacked by a motorist and another knocked over by a van, which accounts for the absence in their positions.

"Tempers were flared by the congestion caused by the Rolls-Royce rally".

Race organisers were quick to point out the error at the prize giving and were looking into giving an award for the runner they thought completed the whole course first.

At the time of going to press, the race marshall had not released the entrants' name.
