And so Monmouth Town's Kingfishers finally lost their unbeaten league record, deservedly going down to a strong-looking Tata Steel outfit who also managed to stop the Kingfishers scoring.
The game started brightly for the home side and Town looked to have left most of their energy on the minibus. And yet having weathered most of the first half storm, Town had a penalty appeal turned down on 24 minutes as Sam Palmer was upended running on to a great through ball by MacDonald.
The home keeper retrieved the ball, sent it high and far into the Town penalty area and Kennedy returned the favour but was penalised. One-nil Tata.
For the rest of the half it was pretty much all Monmouth but in truth the Kingfishers looked off colour, with MacDonald struggling to get into the game, Alderdice leading the line well but with little change from a strong back four.
