THERE are plenty of great outdoor activities going on around the county to keep youngsters occupied during the school holidays without having to raid the family piggy bank!

This Saturday (4th August) for example they can try an archery session at Caldicot Castle, where trained instructors will be in the castle garden all day.

The following day (August 5th) and on Thursday (9th) the visitor centre at Tintern’s Old Station will be the setting for free Punch and Judy shows.

For boys and girls aged five to 12 who are keen to polish their ball skills, MonSport Football Camps are offering eight days of fun and football with FAW qualified coaches. Contact Caldicot or Abergavenny Leisure Centres to book or enquire via [email protected]

Today (3rd August) there’s a young people’s Pride event at Caldicot Castle from 1pm to 8pm. Organised by Monmouthshire Youth Service with support from Monmouthshire County Council, Caldicot Youth Group and Pride Cymru it’s billed as a day of ‘fun, celebration and diversity’ with live entertainment, stalls and speakers suitable for all.

This free event is likely to attract visitors from across the UK. You can sign up by visiting: eventbrite.co.uk/e/monmouthshire-youth-pride

Two weeks on (Friday 17th August, 4pm) an outdoor theatre production of David Walliams’ best seller The Midnight Gang is being staged at Abergavenny Museum and Castle. Tickets from the castle.

There will also be weekly craft activities all through the summer holidays at Monmouthshire’s museums and attractions, with a different theme every week.
