Junior parkrun in Monmouth has entered an exciting new era, as the weekly 2km run for children relocated this weekend to Chippy Playing Fields. After five hugely successful years at Monmouth Leisure Centre under the name Dixton junior parkrun, the event has now found a brand new home in the heart of the community.

The opening run at Chippy Playing Fields was a great success, with 42 youngsters crossing the finish line—25 boys and 17 girls—supported by family, friends and a dedicated team of volunteers. Six children took part in their very first junior parkrun, while another celebrated a remarkable achievement by collecting their milestone band for completing 100 runs.

A team of 22 volunteers ensured the event was safe and enjoyable, highlighting the community spirit that underpins junior parkrun. The event will now build on the huge success of the 5km parkrun at Monmouth each Saturday morning - also on Chippy fields.

The move to Chippy Playing Fields has been warmly welcomed, and organisers are hopeful that the new location will encourage even more children and families to get involved in the weeks ahead. The event will be held every Sunday morning at 9am for children aged 4-14 . And the best part is that it’s completely free !
