MADAM,
How petty and small-minded of our Town Council to boycott the reception organised by The Japanese Friendship Association. Has not one of them the courage to stand up and admit that they have been weak in being influenced and led by a minority of attention seeking members who wish to keep alive hatreds occasioned over 50 years ago!
I have no personal involvement in things Japanese but am fully and endlessly acquainted with the details of barbarism in the Far East during the last war, but it was a war and soldiers are trained and have to do unpleasant things in times of war.
Surely the time has now come to ask the Council how long this hatred is to be maintained, what is to be gained by it and who are the individual members who perpetuate it? I am sure the more magnanimous of us would like to know.
