Well-known local postman, James Weatherhead, is returning to marathon running and will be raising funds for the British Heart Foundation when he takes part in the London Marathon on April 13th. James told The Ross Gazette that this will be his fourth London Marathon. His last marathon was at Edinburgh in 2005. Since then he has been away from competitive running through injury. "It's good to be back in the running shoes," he said. "It is a good way of keeping fit and having a healthy heart. I will be one of the team of Heart Runners." He said he had family members who had suffered from heart disease and he admires the work of the BHF, both locally and across the UK. Heart disease is the biggest killer in the country and funds raised by the team of Heart Runners will help ensure the BHF can continue its vital research into the causes and prevention of the disease. As a postman, James leads an outdoor life and he can be seen training in and around Ross in preparation for the big day. In 1991, he ran the London Marathon in a time of 3 hrs 58 mins 2 secs. James has an added incentive to cross the finishing line this April. If he succeeds, Wine Rack in Gloucester Road have promised him a bottle of Champagne, as they support the BHF with their sales of Pink?Champagne. If you want to sponsor James you can contact him at his home at 31 Vaga Crescent, Ross, or speak to him when he is about the town. The BHF?is registered as charity under the number 225971.
