MUSICIAN Owen Farr's not the type of person to blow his own trumpet, but he certainly knows how to blow a tune or two on the tenor horn. The internationally renowned performer was born in Pontypool, but his prestigious talent for the instrument has taken him around the globe and seen him perform in some of the country's most distinguished and celebrated orchestras. On June 6th Owen, unanimously regarded as one of the finest tenor horn players of his generation, will perform a very special concert at the Raglan Church as part of this year's Raglan Music Festival. His performance will include a varied repertoire of classical music played in his own unique, breathtaking style. Owen's appearance at the Festival will follow a sell-out solo tour of Japan and forms part of his eagerly anticipated European tour, which also features dates in Switzerland, Belgium and German. The Festival date will cap an incredible 10 years for the star who studied at the UK's centre of excellence for brass musicianship, the Royal Northern College of Music. There he landed a place in the famous Williams Fairey Band and was voted Player of the Year by his fellow peers, before accepting a teaching post at the college upon his graduation. He is now a Lecturer and Tutor at the Birmingham Conservatoire and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, and widely regarded as one of the country's leading tenor horn teachers. Performing and playing the instrument remains his foremost passion though. He has played in numerous orchestras and ensembles and also performs as a soloist. Festival committee member Charles Fountain added: "Owen Farr is a real world class musician who has fans across the country and we are delighted he is performing at this year's festival." The Raglan Music Festival runs from June 6-8. Tickets for Owen Farr's performance at the Raglan Church on June 6, 8pm, are £5 and available to purchase from http://www.raglan-festival.org">www.raglan-festival.org.
