A report has been published by a Welsh Assembly Government inspector on the future of planning in Monmouthshire.

The Local Development Plan (LDP) was submitted to the Welsh Assembly by Monmouthshire County Council in December 2012, with two hearings held last year on the subject.

Inspector Siân Worden has now published her final report on the soundness of the LDP, after the original report showed a shortfall of proposed dwellings in the county. Monmouthshire is expected to build 5,000 new houses by 2021.

The county council is expected to meet with the aim of approving the latest report in the coming weeks.

If agreed by councillors, the following houses will be built across the county: At Fairfield Mabey in Chepstow, 350 houses will be built on the site, an increase of 110.

35 houses have been added to the Crick Road site in Portskewett, taking the total to 285.

In Undy, 200 dwellings were allocated at Rockfield Farm, with four hectares (4ha) of employment land. After examination, this will be extended to 270 houses with a loss of 2ha of employment land.

225 houses are proposed for land adjacent to the above site, on Vinegar Hill (pictured). This new site would rely on Rockfield Farm, Grange Road and Dancing Hill for access. The site would cause the current B4245 Magor/ Undy By-Pass to take a traffic-calmed course through the estate.

190 houses will be built on the site of the former paper mill at Sudbrook.

370 houses will be built at Wonastow Road in Monmouth.

80 houses are proposed for the adjacent Drewen Farm site.

At Tudor Road in Wyesham, Monmouth, 35 houses will be built on 2ha.

20 houses are to be built at Cwrt Burrium in Usk, "consistent with the town's modest size".

Around 45 dwellings are hoped for at Chepstow Road in Raglan.

The report includes plans for houses in Devauden, Dingestow, Grosmont, Little Mill and Mathern.

15 new houses are suggested for Cross Ash, 10 houses for Llangybi, seven houses in Llanishen, 15 houses in Pwllmeyric, a possible 10 houses in Penallt and 10 houses for Shirenewton.

15 houses have been suggested for Llandogo, but both sites considered have been ruled out.

Mrs Worden wrote: "Subject to the binding changes recommended, the amount of houses proposed in the LDP is realistic, appropriate and founded on a credible evidence base. Sites were selected in accordance with a robust methodology."
