RAGLAN village is celebrating a double success in the Best Kept Village competition.

The village itself won the top accolade of Best Kept Village in the Large Village category, scoring 94 points out of 100.

Trevor Phillips, the Raglan in Bloom chairman said that the judge was very impressed with the look of the village: “When first setting eyes on Raglan she exclaimed ‘wow’,” said Trevor whose committee of 10 people have been working around the clock to prepare for the judges.

“We have three people just going around picking up litter.”

Success not only came in taking the top award but the Beaufort Hotel also took the best pub in the competition.

Diane Gently of the Beaufort said: “Miguel and his team are extremely happy at being awarded ‘Best kept Public house in Gwent 2017’ following so closely behind being awarded 4-star inn status by Visit Wales.”

Miguel has been the owner of The Beaufort, Raglan for 18 months in which time he has transformed both the outside and inside of this 16th century coaching inn creating a warm, friendly and relaxing ambiance where locals and visitors alike can enjoy a drink in front of one of the log burning fires.

AM Nick Ramsay has congratulated The Beaufort in Raglan on winning the Best Kept Public House award in this year’s Gwent awards.

Mr Ramsay, who lives in Raglan, said: “As my local, I am delighted that The Beaufort has won this prestigious award, well done to Miguel and his team for a well deserved success.”
