IN CHALLENGING times, knowing where to turn to can make a difference, whether it's going to your local food bank, seeking advice and knowing who to turn to.

Monmouth District food bank provide over 1,500 three-day emergency food supplies which are given to people in need each year.

The food bank doesn’t think anyone in the community should go hungry which is why they produce a three-day nutritional balanced emergency food support to people in the local community.

Here are the opening times of the food bank.

They are part of nationwide network of food banks which are supported by The Trussel Trust.

The food bank network was founded in 2004 after they developed the original food bank in Salisbury.

In 2023/24 food banks in the Trussel Trust’s network provided 3,121,404 three-day emergency food supplies and support to UK people in crisis.

Monmouth Community Fridge is another place people in the community can reach out to.

The community fridge redistribute food and prevent food waste giving people in need food which is accessible.

You can find them next to Bridges Community Centre as you go past the main building to get to the community fridge in the stables.

Since opening they have saved over 4,082 kilos of food from being wasted and distributed to those in need.

A charity which people can go to in times of need is the Samaritans aimed at providing emotional support to those who need it in times of need.

Another charity in Monmouth is Citizens which improves people’s lives by giving free independent and confidential advice across Monmouthshire.

The charity specialises in Welfare benefits, debt and consumer advice but they can advise on all areas of welfare rights.

The charity work with people who might need support completing official forms and responding to difficult situations.

Monmouth Community hub is open to anyone and has a variety of different services available like community learning courses like computers, languages and arts and crafts.

There are multiple services at the community hub including: renewing books, council services, community learning, joining the library, borrow a laptop, events and activities.

The Attik in Monmouth is another place where young people in Monmouth from ages 11-18 can go to as it’s an open space for them to connect and feel safe within the community.

It is situated next to Monmouth Library providing a hub for young people to relax, socialise and access support.

Beyond being a drop- in centre The Attik also plays an active role in enriching the lives of young people by organising exciting trips to popular destinations such as Alton Towers and Thorpe Park.

The centre also offers free meals every Thursday, making sure people have access to nutritious meal during the week and last year they handed out an impressive 2,000 meals.

The Attik aims to create a positive and welcoming space in Monmouth where young people can feel heard, valued and supported.
