SIR,
I read with great interest your story regarding
the Jewel Balti restaurant in Monmouth
('Monmouth restaurant shines too bright',
10th February), and the fact that their lights
are too bright.
Which of our local council officials came to
this conclusion? Could it possibly be one of the
many 'faceless bureaucrats' who take this sort
of work upon themselves, at great cost to the
taxpayer? The fact is that the owner of Jewel
Balti has saved this Grade II listed building
from falling into disrepair.
They have spent tens of thousands of
pounds to revitalise a building, and are being
picked on for having a bright sign!
