SIR,

Having read Tyler Chinnick's letter in the March 12th edition of the Beacon, I should like to add my comments.

Immigration is one of many issues of interest to the British public and one that we should be encouraged to debate in an informed, non confrontational and enlightened way.

Fear of the unknown and a dislike of change are often at the root of the type of views expressed on your Letters Page of late and sadly it would seem that if you scratch the surface of many seemingly pleasant, intelligent people, these are the type of views you get.

Tyler Chinnick said he didn't know whether to laugh or cry. In my experience there will always be people who see the down side to everything.

May I suggest a wry smile and a continued enthusiasm for life with all is variety and contrasts?

Janet Gunn
