SIR,

Taxis are booked hours ahead, often days, and for sporting fixtures weeks.

The people who book them are frequently regulars who have specific timings to adhere to – baby sitters to take home, carers to relieve, medication timings to be met, meetings to attend, planes and trains to catch etc.

So an old lady who goes out on a cold slippery night without arranging a lift home is moaning that on the one occasion she wanted to use a taxi she could not.

Presumably the driver should let down regular customers with responsibilities to take her once-in-a-lifetime £3.

My family and I have dealt with Ace Taxis (previously Whiteways) since the early 1980s and have always found them reliable, helpful and accommodating.

It is always those who use taxis once in a blue moon who expect them on tap and moan when it doesn't happen.

If you think you need a taxi, book one
