APPROXIMATELY 450 people attended an outdoor cinema event to celebrate the reopening of Inglis Bridge and its return to the Monmouth community.

The bridge had been closed since September 2024 after safety concerns were identified, temporarily removing a valued pedestrian link for the town. Inglis Bridge provides an important route for residents, school children and visitors, forming part of their everyday journeys across Monmouth.

To mark its reopening, Monmouth Town Council organised an outdoor cinema event on Sunday, September 20, bringing residents from across the town together to share a special moment and celebrate the return of a vital walking route.

“What a cracking evening” “Brilliant Event” “Amazing evening.”

These are just some of the comments from people who attended a spectacular outdoor screening of Mamma Mia!, hosted by the Town Council at Vauxhall Fields.

As the sun went down, families and friends enjoyed this much loved and feel-good film, singing and dancing along to the well-known ABBA classics. When the credits rolled, people turned on their phone torches for a final rendition of “Dancing Queen” a particular moment that will live long in the memory.

Monmouth Town Council would like to extend their sincere thanks to all of the food and beverage vendors who supported the event and who helped make the evening welcoming and enjoyable. A special thanks also goes out to Wonder Cinema and Protech, who provided the screening and lighting and Bethan Searle vocalist who entertained the audience at the event.

However, the biggest and final thanks goes out to everyone who attended and enjoyed the evening to mark an important moment for Monmouth.

Community events like this highlight the importance of coming together, sharing special and meaningful moments across the town and one which will be remembered by many.
