MONMOUTHSHIRE Housing Association is developing a flagship scheme to provide quality accommodation for the over 60s in Monmouth.

The old Trevor Bowen Court site was deemed unfit for purpose and subsequently demolished to make way for a new, modern 20 apartment scheme which will provide independent living for the over 60s.

The newly renamed Trevor Bowen House will be completed in March 2015 with the first residents expected to move into their new homes from April.

Nine tenants that were decanted from the old sheltered scheme will be returning to the new purpose built building and will benefit from spacious apartments with fitted kitchen and wet room, and a large communal lounge and IT suite.

MHA has been liaising with these residents who have chosen their new kitchens and bathrooms so they can put their own stamp on their new home.

The new apartments will tie in with the re-launch of MHAs Older Persons Accommodation which has been rebranded as "Life Begins".

The scheme has kept its links to local beneficiary Trevor Bowen by keeping his name for the new apartments.

Trevor Bowen was a retail magnate in London from 1922 and kept close links with the Monmouth community providing key donations to repair the local church roof and later became a Freeman of Monmouth with the previous sheltered accommodation on the site being named after him.

The scheme boasts a mix of one and two bedroom spacious apartments and interested people can now register their interest on Monmouthshire Homesearch to be considered for a new apartment from April.
