A NEW petrol station, drive-through fast food outlets and a warehouse on the edge of Chepstow could create up to 275 jobs, say a national retail company.

The EG Group is planning to develop a 4.67-hectare site beside the Wales Coastal path and M48 at the Newhouse Industrial Estate.

The company is currently engaged in a pre-application consultation period, with a view to submitting a bid for planning approval.

EG Group employs nearly 1,300 people, serves 130 million customers a year and has 666 outlets.

It works with the likes of fried chicken giant KFC - which advertised possible jobs at Newhouse earlier this year – Burger King, Greggs, Subway and Starbucks, plus petrol firms such as BP and
Esso.

The proposed 24/7 petrol station, store and drive throughs are envisaged to create 75 jobs, while the warehouse space could see another 200 jobs created, say the developers.

The petrol station and store will cover 480 sqm, the restaurant 305 sqm and the coffee drive through 200 sqm.

EG Group says the retail element would “contribute positively to local economic wellbeing”.

There will also be 75 car parking spaces, around 10 per cent with electric vehicle charging and also disabled provision.

Design images show the buildings would be single-storey with a “modern design which will comprise a positive enhancement to the site and surrounding area”.

EG also aims to seek outline planning for a 9,000 sqm warehouse, including 125 car parking spaces.

“It is envisaged that the proposed floorspace has the potential to provide 200 jobs”, it says.

The plans will be submitted to Monmouthshire County Council after the pre-application consultation period ends on August 1.
