A hoax call led to a police helicopter's late-night search over Monmouth last week.

The helicopter was called out to search the town after police received a call from a person claiming to have assaulted someone.

"Officers followed several lines of enquiry in the area, all of which proved negative," said a police spokesperson.

" It was established that this was a possible hoax call."
