SIR,
As yet another batch of soldiers flies out of Brize Norton to Afghanistan this weekend, my own precious son amongst them, those of us left behind have to find ways of coping.
Mine is to keep frantically busy, in a constructive way, by raising funds for the brave soldiers who come back wounded and injured.
They often need huge support once they leave hospital which government and their families cannot provide alone, so the charity Help for Heroes was born two years ago to fund the hugely expensive programmes and the infrastucture that goes with them that this rehabilitation and caring process requires.
I am organising a great big prize draw in aid of Help for Heroes, which I invite your readers to support by buying tickets.
Not cheap at £10 each but the prizes - of which there will be many - are excellent and if you don't win one then there is still the satisfaction of giving to this great charity (in its first year of operation 98% of money raised went straight to the cause and this remains the target).
For details of where to buy the tickets, and the prizes on offer visit the Monmouth website http://www.welcometomonmouth.co.uk">www.welcometomonmouth.co.uk or email Cerys for more details at [email protected]">[email protected]. The list of ticket sales venues and prizes will be added to as it grows, this is a work still in progress!
If you don't have access to the internet you can telephone 01600 715611 for more information also.
The draw will take place at the offices of the Monmouthshire Beacon - thank you Beacon - in mid October and a full list of prizewinners will be published.
Finally huge thanks to the wonderful generous Monmouth businesses who are supporting the draw by donating the prizes - and if your business has not been approached yet (I can only get round so many) and you would like to be included, the contact details are above.
Mrs M C Atkins
