POLICE officers are advising residents to take extra precautions to protect their exterior heating oil tanks following two thefts in the area.
Sometime between Tuesday 27th March and Wednesday 28th March, oil was stolen from a tank in the Usk area, and on Monday 2nd April a report was received that a tank in the Abergavenny area had been targeted.
Crime and disorder reduction officer Maldwyn John, said: "I'd like to encourage local residents to take some simple precautions to help reduce the likelihood of their heating tank being targeted, such as planting shrubs or fencing to conceal the tank, or installing external movement sensitive security lighting.
"If residents also see anything suspicious, then please report it to us by phoning 101."
Officers are asking to be extra vigilant of tankers or large vehicles close to your property. Note down any registration numbers of vehicles you think look suspicious and report them to Gwent Police by calling 101.
To report crime, or suspicious activity, phone 101. In an emergency, dial 999.
