An alternative site for Monmouthshire County Council's (MCC) Local Development Plan (LDP) is soon to be open for discussion.

Currently, Wonastow Road has been nominated as a strategic site for development within the draft LDP, but if deemed unsuitable, it may be removed from the deposit plan and replaced with another.

MCC has to find a site in Monmouth suitable to build about 400 homes on over the next 10 years.

One alternative to Wonastow Road, being put forward by developers Taylor Wimpey, is Vauxhall Fields.

A spokesperson for Taylor Wimpey said: "We have looked at a number of potential sites in Monmouth and have identified land to the north west of Vauxhall Fields as a natural area for development.

"This site is within walking distance of the town centre, which would enable the creation of a well-integrated and sustainable new community.

"We want to talk to local people to understand how our site could be designed to deliver real benefits for Monmouth and have therefore already met with a number of key local stakeholders and groups, resulting in some really interesting discussions and ideas.

"We have been pleased with the reception received so far and experienced a genuine appetite for debate on the future growth of Monmouth.

"In order to build on this local dialogue, we are now organising a public event in November, and would encourage local residents to come and talk to us about our plans for the site and how this fits into the LDP process."

The exhibition will take place between 1pm and 8pm on Friday 4th November in Bridges Community Centre.
