HABERDASHERS’ Agincourt School in Monmouth have donated £800 to Penarth RNLI lifeboat appeal.
Agincourt School arranged a visit to Penarth Lifeboat Station for its year two pupils in May.
During that visit they learned that the Penarth Lifeboat Appeal would be launched in July, and said that they would run a fundraising event.
The children, parents and members of staff organized the event on a Wednesday morning in June, it involved face painting, making bead bracelets, “wellie” throwing, wet sponge throwing at teachers, a raffle, and most painful of all the waxing of the deputy head’s legs.
Mr Matt Wren, the deputy head had recovered sufficiently to present a cheque for £800 to Hannah Mills at the appeal launch on 21st July.
Launched earlier in the year, Penarth’s lifeboat appeal aims to raise £52,000 to provide a new D class lifeboat for the station.
Penarth’s RNLI lifeboat station was Wales’ busiest inshore lifeboat station last year and provides 24hr on call service by volunteers willing to risk their lives to save others in trouble in the sea.
The rescues wouldn’t be possible without their workhorse, the ‘D Class Lifeboat’, which they are fundraising to help replace their current D Class, which has been on service since 2008, ‘D693 Connie Daines’ has launched on 225 service calls, rescued 332 people and saved 7 lives.
The RNLI is a charity reliant on public donations to keep our rescue services afloat and every donation makes a difference.
Jason Dunlop, Lifeboat Operations Manager said: “It’s vital that our volunteer lifeboat crew have the best resources available to them to keep them safe whilst rescuing others.
“Thank you to our friends at Haberdashers’ Agincourt School – it is fabulous that they have actively engaged with this appeal and we look forward to working with more schools across the area and in particular with schools within our local community.”
Donations can be made via the RNLI Station, the Esplanade, Penarth, CF64 3AU or via www.penarthlifeboatappeal.org.
