A HABERDASHERS’ Monmouth student has had a busy and unforgettable few weeks in the United States as he participated in prestigious golf tournaments.

Alfie Skinner began the competitions in San Diego at the USwing Junior World Championships, where he produced golf that was in line with his handicap. Although pleased with aspects of his game, he was naturally disappointed to finish around 90th in a field of approximately 160 of the world’s top young golfers, knowing he was capable of more.

A week later Alfie travelled to Palm Springs for the FCG Callaway Junior World Championship.

Alfie opened with a two-under-par round, he followed it with a level-par second round before finishing with a solid three-over-par in the final round. His total of one over par secured a joint 21st place from another field of around 160 competitors which is one of his strongest international performances to date.

As there was a week between the tournaments, the family enjoyed some sightseeing in San Francisco and Santa Cruz before treating Alfie to two of the world’s most famous golf courses, Pebble Beach and Spyglass Hill with a professional caddie by his side. Alfie returned impressive scores of 12 over par at Pebble Beach and five over par at Spyglass Hill.

The golfing journey continued to Pinehurst in North Carolina for the world-renowned USKids Golf World Championship featuring around 1,600 players from over 50 countries across all age groups.

Alfie recorded rounds of three over par one, and nine over par where he finished the championship 13 over par overall. Although the final leaderboard may not have reflected his ambitions, the scores represented his lowest-ever total in this event, highlighting the progress he has made over time.

Alfie’s golfing journey continues as he getting ready to go to Venice to compete in the USKids Golf Venice Open.
