GWENT Police have issued advice to any of those looking to book a last-minute holiday to prevent the risk of being scammed.
They reported that many scams are originating from misleading social media accounts and fraudulent travel websites.
Holiday fraud can take many forms such as fake accommodation listings, clone websites, holiday club fraud and flight compensation scams.
The advice they have given people is to:
- Do your research before booking and look for official logos such as ABTA, ATOL and ABTOT to verify companies.
- If a deal seems too good to be true, then it probably is
- Use a secure payment method such as a credit card
- Check the company’s reviews on trusted review sites
- Make sure you’re booking through a secure website
If you or someone you know has been a victim of fraud, you can report it to Report Fraud by calling 0300 123 2040 or by visiting their website.
