Gwent Police were called into action at the weekend after receiving a call that was made reporting that a person had jumped into the River Wye at Chepstow at 5.45pm on Sunday 29th July.

Extensive searches and enquiries were carried out by officers, the coastguard, SARA and the police helicopter, and eventually the search was called off.

The report is now being dealt with as a hoax call and enquiries are ongoing to identify the person responsible.

The call will have triggered memories of the death of Rikki Baldwin in May, after extensive searches for the Chepstow man ended with police finding his body on the banks of the River Severn.
