A Monmouth woman thought she was going to die when her enraged ex-partner pointed a loaded double-barrelled shotgun at her.
Cardiff Crown Court heard that 48-year-old landscape gardener Peter Slaughter believed that Kate Brown was having an affair, but he was entirely wrong, said prosecutor Martin Kelly.
As he brandished the gun he told her: "Today is the day you are going to die. I am going to kill you and then kill myself."
Slaughter, formerly of Raglan Drive, Monmouth, but whose last address was in Mount Craig Hall, Hildersley, Ross-on-Wye, was jailed for four and a half years after pleading guilty to possessing a firearm with intent to cause violence.
