At the latest meeting of Monmouth Partnership Forum, members were shown draft plans of a possible redesign for Monnow Street.
Monmouthshire County Council's Highways Department has been working with the aim of making the town centre a better place for pedestrians while at the same time ensuring the smooth flow of traffic.
Safety is a major consideration, and Highways agreed to specifically address this at a future meeting with the Monmouth Visually Impaired Club.
Parking is another major issue, though this will be in part mitigated by the redevelopment of 20-24 Monnow Street which will provide extra off-street parking, space for delivery vehicles and direct access to the existing car parks behind Monnow Street.
Members welcomed the idea that it would be much easier to cross the street, and they also liked the wider pavements with the opportunities these could provide for a café culture.
Members gave reports of the numerous activities and events they are planning.
Membership of the forum is open to all groups in and around Monmouth whose aim is to make Monmouth a better place to live, work and play.
