Offa's Mead Academy has received a glowing report from Ofsted. The school was classed as 'good' in all categories and teachers were praised for creating a "family environment in which pupils feel safe and well cared for." Children with disabilities or those who have special needs are making good progress thanks to the well-targeted support offered by staff. The school was not yet classed as 'outstanding' because progress in pupils' writing was not as rapid as in reading and mathematics. The report also said that on some occasions the more able pupils are not challenged enough in their work, especially in mathematics. Michael Bartleman, lead inspector at Ofsted, observed several lessons and held discussions with pupils and staff last month (27th June). In 2009 the school was classed by Ofsted as being in the special measures category, in 2011 when Ofsted re-visited the school it was bumped up to satisfactory. In a letter written to parents of Offa's Mead pupils, proud head teacher Mrs Clare Greene, said: "It has been a long journey of improvement since special measures in 2009. "The hard work of the staff has been vital to this success. "I would like to thank each individual for their effort and unwavering commitment as well as the sacrifices they have made. "Of course we would not be a good school without your wonderful children and they should be commended for their attitudes towards learning and their improved behaviour. "Thank you to all parents and carers for your support for the academy and your pride in our achievements." To view the full Ofsted report, visit: http://www.ofsted.gov.uk">www.ofsted.gov.uk
