A pupil of Monmouth Comprehensive School has struck gold at a national rowing tournament.

Megan Jephcote, from Coleford, won the gold medal at the Scottish National Indoor Rowing Championships in Edinburgh.

The 12-year-old had previously won bronze in 2009, followed by silver in 2010 and now the gold so a full rack of medals at this national championship.

Edinburgh was the start of an epic 21 days of training, travelling and competitions both national and international.

The 30th will see Megan take part in the English National Championships in Manchester then four days later she flys out to Helsinki, Finland, to take on the cream of Finland's finest under 14 girls.

There will be no let-up in training as she needs to train five times a week including on-the-water training at Gloucester Rowing Club.

All this and she still has to find time to do her homework.
