SIR, This is my final letter regarding the use of the Sports Ground. I feel I must respond to Mr Robson's letter in which he says that the Kingfishers have now moved to their new home in Abergavenny. If that is the case, can we please have the Sports Ground back? After all it is owned by the people of Monmouth. He knows better than anyone that by going to almost semi-pro level, he has outgrown Monmouth. He also says that when the players finish playing at youth level and he has cherry-picked what they want, the rest, in his words, have to go and play at other clubs in and around Monmouth. Why should they have to do that when the simple answer is a local club being formed to play on the Sports Ground? My family history of playing there goes back to the 1930s when my dad played for the rugby club and my brother played for the town in the 1950s. I played in the 60s and the 70s and my son in the 90s, and I hope my grandchildren will have the chance to play for the town. He says to go down Chippy on a Saturday morning and see youngsters playing, this was happening before Mr Robson came to live in Monmouth. The Lads Club ran teams from the ages of six to 18, in fact all of the players he named came through the Lads Club. I would like to finish by saying what a great photo in the Beacon of the Welsh Cap presentation to a local father for his son, who played for Monmouth Town AFC on the Sports Ground, happy days.
