Rocky the Raglan Festival mascot was out in force at Raglan School Fete and Raglan Football Tournament recently encouraging children to get into music at Raglan Festival on 13th June.

"Our festival music workshops have always proved to be one of the most popular aspects of Raglan Festival, having attracted over 300 young participants during last year's event" says Festival Committee Chairman Colwyn Knight.

An exciting format and greatly expanded programme to promote music for youngsters has been planned for 2015.

This year the workshops have been condensed into one day, Saturday 13th June between 10am and 1.30pm, at Raglan VC Primary School, Chepstow Road, and will be a real family day of fun.

Whether dancing around the living room on a rainy day or singing along to the radio, kids love listening to and participating in music, so there are loads of good reasons to encourage this enthusiasm. Research shows that kids who are actively involved in music (who play it or sing it regularly) do better in reading, learn co-ordination, concentration, and co-operation and are more likely to do better in maths and science because music helps build reasoning skills and cognitive development. But the best reason to encouraging a love of music is that it's fun!

At this year's Festival there will be the opportunity for anyone under the age of eighteen to 'have a go' on a whole range of musical instruments, including drums, electric guitars, saxophone, woodwind, cello, hand bells, violins and this year they are getting technical with their very popular DJ workshops and electric strings!

Your child can have any amount of 10-minute introductory lessons with a seasoned professional, plus take part in a variety of other activities and entertainment.

The workshops will be followed with a party to celebrate Raglan Festival's 10th Anniversary Party including a traditional Ceilidh full of dancing and music at the school for all the family.

Getting kids into music, celebrating local musical talent, supporting up-and coming Welsh acts whilst fostering a welcoming village community ethos Raglan Music Festival 2015 promises to be another great event.
