Everything in the garden is blooming wonderful for a disabled woman and her former carer, who is now her husband, as they were awarded first prize in Herefordshire Housing's annual Gardening Competition. Dave Wooles worked as Jane's carer, helping her with shopping and other tasks around her house in Brampton Abbotts, when they fell in love and last year in August they married. Since the wedding Dave has devoted himself, not just to Jane but to transforming the garden into a colourful haven with immaculate lawns and flower beds. Jane entered David into the competition as she is so proud of everything he has created. She said: Dave has turned the house into a home." And the judges from Herefordshire housing were extremely impressed with the array of beautiful flowers, shrubs and plants that the couple lovingly grow and tend in their garden. "It is a delightful garden to walk around and enjoy," said Mandy Fincher, one of the judges. "In a short space of time they have achieved a tremendous amount and they fully deserve their first prize." The couple love all plants and flowers and they are very green using water butts to save rain and making all their own compost. Jane said: Dave does all the hard work but I like to help with weeding and dead heading." They usually plan everything together and they have no intention of sitting back and taking a well earned rest and enjoying their wonderful garden. They are now busy making their garden even more bio-diverse by building a pond and water feature purely out of recycled materials. They only decided to build the pond a week ago but it is already taking shape. The judges agree that their garden is an inspiration to everyone. Jane was also pleased that her neighbour George Watts was so delighted with their success that he contacted the Ross Gazette. Rita Haggett has also won with Herefordshire Housing
