A Pony Club member from Monmouthshire has had success at the national championships.

Between 13th and 16th August, the Pony Club Championships were held at Draycott House, Derbyshire, and included the annual finals for Intermediate and Open level Pony Club Members across five of the major disciplines, including Dressage, Show Jumping, Eventing, Mounted Games and Polocrosse.

Other competitions held included the final of the Horse and Pony Care Competition, Centre Equitation Competition, Dressage to Music and the Musical Ride competition.

Pony Club members from all over the country travel to take part in the championships after qualifying during the summer, and the event also requires the manpower of an incredible 600 volunteers across the four days.

Gabriella Bligh, from the Monmouthshire Branch of The Pony Club, enjoyed the championships, winning the Intermediate Individual Dressage sponsored by Carr & Day & Martin.

Gabriella, aged 14, was riding Ariban and won in her arena on a score of 71.48 per cent, giving her a place in the ride off, where she produced another great score of 71.36 per cent to win.

Gabriella received the Whitbread Cup, and a leather bridle kindly donated by The Worshipful Company of Saddlers.

"The Championships are a really special occasion in The Pony Club calendar and the pinnacle of achievement for many of our members," said Cherry Michell, chairman of the Pony Club.

"The 2011 Championships have been no exception, and it has been wonderful to see the results of the Pony Club's training, which produces young riders to this high standard."
