Donations are fast approaching a gofundme target to give a popular 41-year-old Monmouth man who lost his life last week, the send-off he deserves.

Mike Farr tragically died last week at a property in Church Street, sending a community in shock at the loss of a great friend described as “an absolute legend”.

Police confirmed that a 41-year-old man was found dead outside a Monmouth town centre property on Monday evening, July 13.

Pub goers at the nearby Punch House and passers-by saw a large police and ambulance presence at the Agincourt Square entrance to Church Street from just after 6pm, with part of the street cordoned off.

It is believed the man was found unresponsive in a nearby courtyard.

Steve Porter and Pamela Howard have joined forces to crowd fund in Mike’s memory to ensure “Mike’s friends the opportunity to come together and give him the great send-off he deserves”.

So far, generous donations of £300 and £200 have helped to push the amount raised to £2,320, just over £1,000 shy of the target of £3,500.

The organisers say that this fund was not about raising funds for funeral costs.

“It was more about giving all of Mike’s friends the opportunity to come together and give him the great send-off he deserves.

Steve Porter added: “So many of you messaged me saying “if there’s anything we can do to help, just let us know.”

“In situations like this, there’s little anyone can do, which is what gave me the idea to set up the gofundme. So we all can contribute in some way,” he added.

“I’m really grateful that Pamela is now a co-organiser with me on GoFundMe and it looks like Craig and Taff are full steam ahead, doing up the function room at The Riverside so it’ll be ready for Mike’s big send-off”.

Steve said that Mike was a master craftsman: “for every pound he charged you, he was worth two.

“A legend on the green baize, a pool player to be seriously reckoned with.

“He was old school to the core straight talking, hard working, and don’t wind him up the wrong way

“He was always the heart of the party, full of banter, fun, a cheeky grin and a laugh that always filled the room.

“The Riverside will never be the same without him.

“To all his friends who loved him, and to everyone who had the privilege of him working for you — this is your chance to give something back to a man who gave so much to our community.

“So let's get this fund raiser back on track. If you would like to be a part of it we will make sure that all of the funds raised will go towards giving Mike one of the Greatest send-offs Monmouth has ever seen,” he added.
