THE annual Raglan Day carnival parade and fun day, held on bank holiday Monday (27th August) has been hailed a success by organisers and attendees.

The carnival showcased Rocky the festival mascot, the Gwent and Powys Cadet band, Festival King and Queen Ruby Lewis-Atwell and Jacob Hamblin (driven in a BMW 4 series convertible owned and driven by Stephen Atwell), the Millennium Chimes bell ringers, Raglan CiW VC School, Puddleducks Nursery and Raglan Junior Football Club walking parties as well as many locals in fancy dress parading through the village.

Two star floats were created and paraded as part of the carnival; the first was an amazing ‘Turn the Tide on Plastic’ themed float by Raglan WI, and the second a fantastic pirate themed float complete with sunken boat by the Raglan 1st Scouts.

Also enjoyed on the day was the village produce festival, showcasing successful homecraft, floral, art and horticulture produce categories included both junior and adult sections.

To add to the fantastic festival atmosphere the fabulous Velha Bataria Samba band, funky duo the Pashy Pops and the Buskalaylees with their ukuleles performed on the main stage throughout the afternoon, along with great acoustic sets from Ella James and Jonny Quick. Around two thousand people enjoyed the cloudy summer afternoon and family fun day. Raglan day raffle winner, Julie Parry (visiting her Raglan family from Sydney, Australia) was delighted to win a luxury barbecue hamper.
