For the past nine weeks Spirit of Monmouth have been coaching a C25K group run by Lucy MacDonald and David Rutter . Paul Firth, Katie Dukes, Becky Baker, Samantha Porter Ian King and Serry King have been gradually building up their distance, pace and stamina following the C25K programme.
Saturday March 18 saw the group head to Monmouth’s very own park run ‘Chippenham playing fields’ to complete their 5k graduation run alongside lots of Spirit of Monmouth club members painting the Park run a colourful blue and yellow.
All six runners crossed the finish line supported by Spirit of Monmouth running club members and created themselves lots of new 5k PBs.
Paul came in 1st supported by Brian Evans and Martin Blakebrough with a brilliant time of 26:19, followed by a brilliant effort together from Katie Dukes 32:47 and Becky Baker 32:48 supported by Lucy and Linsey Holt. Samantha porter had a super run supported by Helen Dunn 35:47. Ian king had an amazing run with David Rutter clocking 37:00. Serry King showed pure determination and commitment finishing on 41:36 supported by Renske Bouwens . Lucy Macdonald said “She really enjoyed coaching the group over the past 9 weeks and all members have done extremely well and smashed their first Park run in Monmouth”
As well as gaining new PBs Lucy and David congratulated all runners with certificates and handmade medals and gave out some personal awards.
Sara Moore whom completed her C25K last week was given an award for 100% attendance and commitment to the c25k sessions.
Katie and Becky were given the greatest come back award, having previously attended spirits C25K programme and smashing it this time around. Serry and Ian were given the award for sheer determination in dreaming they could do it, believing they could do it and absolutely 100 per cent achieved it.
