MONMOUTH Town Council are seeking an urgent meeting with Monmouth and District Chamber of Trade and Commerce to discuss the alarming number of empty shops in the town. Cllr Mrs Sue Chivers, who brought the matter to the attention to the council's planning committee on Monday, told the Beacon: "There are a lot of empty shops and more about to close. It's frightening." The council are invited the Chairman of MDCTC, David Cummings, to talk at the council's next planning committee meeting to discuss possible reasons for the situation. Among the shops which have closed recently are Huckaback in Church Street, Priory Pets in Priory Street, The Green Shop, Calico Furnishings and Books and Puzzles in Monnow Street.
