FREE broadband in Caldicot town centre is now a reality thanks to the Town Team who have pushed through the project.

The first public internet access point is now live and providing free wifi through Spectrum Internet.

The set-up has built in content filters, blocking out harmful sites and pictures, which allows all users to use the internet in safety.

The public wifi has been installed under the Super Connected Cities Programme, a government funding scheme which provides support towards installing super-fast fibre broadband to town centres.

Caldicot Town Team (CTT) has also been working with Spectrum Internet and Monmouthshire County Council.

Aaron Reeks of CTT said, "The scheme will be a big boost for Caldicot, especially for independent and local businesses who do not currently use the internet.

"We (CTT) are able to offer help in getting started with online advertising and online shopping markets.

"We are also able to offer exclusive discounts and vouchers for the public to use when online in the town centre.

"Installation will continue into the new year, improving the service as it goes.

"With the new 21st century school to be built soon, and the other improvements that are being made in the town, it's really bringing the whole area up to date."

To connect to the free internet service simply choose "Spectrum Internet" in your device's wifi options and you will immediately be connected without the need for passwords.
