SIR,

In 1974 there were a number of young men in Llandenny and the surrounding countryside who played football for other teams so they decided to start a team of their own, Llandenny United Football Club.

There were four brothers from one family, two brothers from another so it was truly a local team.

In their inaugural season they were undefeated and won the Argus Shield. So popular were they that Bridge Meadow hosted over 100 spectators and often many more week in and week out.

This is nostalgia of the best kind when small villages had strong community spirit and everything they need. Where has it all gone?
