A Monmouth student was celebrating last week after winning an innovation award for his takeaway invention.

Calvin Kwok, a sixth form pupil at Monmouth School, won first prize at the WJEC Innovation 2010 Exhibition on Monday 11th October for his AS level design and technology project.

Calvin's design, the Roller Tray, provides a quick and hygienic way of sealing takeaway cartons.

He came up with the idea while working at his parents' takeaway restaurant, and his winning project beat off thousands of other entries.

The First Minister of Wales, Carwyn Jones AM, presented Calvin with his prize.

"It is fantastic to see that the younger generation in Wales can boast such a high calibre in innovation," said Mr Jones.

"I have seen some outstanding exhibits and it has been a pleasure to meet and congratulate those who have been chosen for an award."
