A FLOWER festival in Raglan took place over the weekend, with money raised going towards the repair of a church roof.

Raglan’s Festival of Flowers ran from Friday (29th July) to Sunday (31st July) at St Cadoc’s Church, with proceeds going towards the ongoing ‘Raise the Roof’ campaign.

The campaign has already raised in excess of £40,000, and work on the church’s roof commenced earlier this year. A new wheelchair-friendly path has also been installed as work continues.

The displays were designed and coordinated by Linda Badham, a qualified judge with the National Association of Flower Arranging Societies (NAFAS). Linda, who is also a tutor for floral art, arranged the flowers with assistance from friends from Pontrilas, Lydney, Chepstow, Newport, Cwmbran, Pontypool, Blanaevon, Blackwood and of course Raglan, producing a mix of traditional and contemporary arrangements.

The arrangements were sponsored by local businesses, raising £660 for the appeal.

After three days, the festival concluded with Festal Evensong on Sunday evening.

Nevile Crump, church warden at St Cadoc’s said: “It went exceedingly well.

“It is difficult to know the total raised so far, but we are very pleased with the result.

“Thanks to everyone involved, to those who provided refreshments and stewarded and in particular Beverley Jones who helped with sponsorships and posters and banners.

“It was absolutely magnificent”.

A number of events will take place later in the year to continue raising money for the Raise the Roof appeal. For more information contact Beverley Jones on 01291 691991.
