The fabulous gardens and woodland of Rockfield Park will again be open to the public on Sunday June 7 under the National Gardens Scheme.

An army of enthusiastic volunteers will be selling delicious, enormous home-made cakes and serving tea. The refreshments are incredibly popular, with many visitors heading straight for the cakes, and then touring the gardens. Picnics can also be bought along, and dogs on leads are welcome. And if you are brave enough, feel free to swim in the River Monnow from the water garden.

Rockfield Park sits in farmland on the River Monnow, just three miles from the market town of Monmouth. The house occupies a spectacular spot, with wonderful views of the Monmouthshire countryside. To the south is the spire of St Mary’s Priory Church, nestled in the surrounding hills; to the north the rolling hills, fields and woodland of the Monnow valley.

The gardens and extensive grounds comprise formal plant and vegetable gardens, ponds, meadows and orchard, complemented by riverside and woodland walks. Among the features in early June are large herbaceous borders, peonies, early roses, iris, and clematis. Other features include ancient acers, a wonderful orchard and a splendid vegetable garden. There are delights for every gardener to savour.

Parking is near the main house. The main part of gardens can be accessed by wheelchair but not the steep water garden. There is a drop-off near the house for those that require this.

The gardens will be open between 10.30 am until 4pm. Entrance is £7.00 for adults. Young children and car parking is free. The gardens will be signposted in the village of Rockfield, north east of Monmouth. Further details are on the NGS website, found by searching NGS Rockfield Park.
