A RUNAWAY HORSE that caused chaos on the A40 last Friday finally came to its senses – and walked straight into the garden at a Monmouth vet's.

Eight-year-old Zorro – full name Don Diego Del A Vega – is a 14-hand Welsh cross Arab that lives at Newton Court, a couple of miles north of Monmouth.

On Friday 26th March, he managed to escape from his usual quarters and make his way down to the dual carriageway, where he ran up and down for half an hour.

Thirty to 40 police officers were called out to try to catch him, but the elusive Zorro outwitted them at every turn. Then, perhaps tiring of the game, he walked down to Dixton roundabout, took a right onto the road to Monmouth, and ambled placidly through the gate at Elms Vet Surgery.
