Tickets are available to buy online now for this year’s Monmouthshire Show, which takes place on Sunday 17th August. Following on from the success of last year, the Committee have worked hard to bring about another jam packed day, full of variety and fun for everyone. The Main Ring opens to the thrill of the scurry, where pairs of ponies travel at the gallop through a course of cones barely centimetres wider than their cart. The entertainment continues with the often comical dog and duck display, majestic birds of prey, highly skilled working gundogts, Icelandic Horses and much more!
In the Livestock area, the show’s first ever female President, Joyce Groves, is delighted to welcome the return of Showing Classes. Native, continental and commercial sheep and cattle will be judged on their structural conformity whilst Young Handlers will be assessed on their ability, appearance and knowledge. Judging starts at 10am with Junior Young Handlers, followed by sheep shearing demonstrations at 12noon and 2pm.
Elsewhere on the showground, Kevin’s Community Circus is back to entertain kids young and old with ‘have a go’ circus tricks. The adorable Mini Pony Show comes prepared to dazzle with three new performances for this year and BubbleMan is on hand with captivating bubble skills. Visit the Tropical Encounters stand for regular presentations throughout the day or try the ride on tractors.
The Fun Dog Show is a must for all those with dogs, register at 11am for a 12noon start, or why not try your hand at the dog obedience and retrieval challenges. Whilst you’re there, sign up for a ‘have a go’ fly casting session with instructors from G.A.I.A. Or for those preferring to relax by the stage, this year’s chair, Steph Harris, has arranged for the Monmouth Male Voice Choir to appear at the show, where they will perform alongside the Gwent Music Percussion Ensemble, Monmouth Town Band and a selection of other local groups.
Budding artists, bakers, photographers and home growers still have time to enter the Home and Garden competitions; the schedule is available to view on the Monmouthshire Show Website under Exhibitors.
The Royal Monmouthshire Royal Engineers (Militia) will be putting on a fine static display with a large truck, 4 x 4 and more. They will be sited near the Vintage Section, made up of stationary engines, tractors, cars and bikes plus vintage military vehicles.
With so much going on, remember to visit their traders. Whether it’s the artisan makers in the Craft Marquee, the small retailers in the Shopping Mall, the delicious food on sale in the Food Hall or the outside traders, all have taken time and effort to bring you a wide variety of quality products to look at and, hopefully, buy.
With so much left unmentioned, the Monmouthshire Show is sure to be a great day out for everyone! The weather is booked and is looking good!
