A 15 year-old Haberdashers pupil has puzzled competitors in London after holding onto her Times Junior SuDoku champion title for a second year running.
Elizabeth Rhodes is currently studying for her GCSEs but took time away from the books to relax with the math puzzles in London. She was invited to compete in the competition again this year after winning in 2011, and she made sure it was worth the journey.
The fast puzzler, from Magor, had the highest score from the junior catagory, and even ranked twelfth in the adult section.
"People qualified through the newspaper to get into the competiton. We were given puzzles in two sessions that got harder as they went on, which is funny because I find the later ones easier," said the clever teenager, who describes maths as "good fun".
Elizabeth has been hooked on these puzzles since she was under the age of 10 and admits that it was her mum that got her interested.
"My mum saw it in the newspaper one day and thought that I would like it," she said.
The school pupil is now awaiting her unknown prize after she was last year awarded a collection of books by the newspaper.
