THIS week marked the start of the demolition of the old building at Monmouth Comprehensive School.

The first buildings were demolished yesterday (5th July), with the old school building, the old library and the caretaker’s bungalow being the first to go. The demolition marks the start of the process, with the swimming pool, drama block and DT block still to be demolished.

The new school, part of Monmouthshire County Council’s 21st Century Schools programme, has experienced some delays. The enabling work is complex for this site, with the need to ensure that the full working of the school and leisure centre is not interrupted.

The plans for the new school were approved by councillors last July and the school is set to open in September 2017.
